And I’m sure you will not be bored

After ignoring the free course on prompt engineering by Andrew NG, I proceeded towards finding another course, a free one.

I have used ChatGPT for over 6-7 months and have strengthened my knowledge grip about how to properly prompt AI

By watching videos, reading articles, and researching different types and forms of prompts on the internet

But what I wanted the most was a full beginner to pro-level free course over prompt engineering as I’m really interested in this topic,

Btw, I don’t belong from a computer science background, but the reason behind my interest is, that I believe,

Soon we are going to automate most of our tasks with the help of AI by simply commanding it in plain English.

So Prompt Engineering becomes one of the most demanding skills in the upcoming days as it can help the AI to understand what the user really wants in detail

Spoiler alert!

So, the spoiler is I have found a really good course on Coursera about prompt engineering

I recently started learning yesterday.

It is free and I guess it also offers a certificate when you finally complete the course (not sure though).

The name of the course is “Prompt Engineering for ChatGPT by Vanderbilt University” on Coursera

Taught by Dr. Jules white who is an Associate professor of Computer Science

As you can see in the image below

Summary of the course

The preface of the course tells that it is a beginner-level course designed mainly for individuals irrespective of their domains

That is everybody can learn this course, even if they don’t have programming knowledge or if they belong to any other field.

Only basic computer knowledge is required and you’re all set

The course teaches how to craft prompts, starting from the basic level to the intermediate level,

It promises that at the end of this course, students will have strong prompt engineering skills, that can help them to solve real-life problems in different domains using AI

Well, I just completed my 1st week’s content in this course, the concepts are explained in a bit-sized videos, around 10-12 minutes (approx.)

So don’t worry, you will not be bored while watching videos

The Topics that I liked the most

Well, there are 2 topics that I liked the most from this course

The first one is about role prompting where Dr. White explained how assigning a role to an AI can deliver the best outputs

We all have used ChatGPT and are familiar with roleplay prompting,

Right?

Where we assign them to perform a particular role, such as

  • Copywriter
  • Content writer
  • Data analyst and so on.

I had also infused this prompting technique in my ChatGPT UI as a Social Media manager, and it really gives me my desired output whenever I want to create any social media post irrespective of the platform.

The 2nd most liked topic was the explanation about

Why Large Language Models like ChatGPT always generate random answers every time even when asked the same set of questions.

Dr. Jules emphasizes that these large language models are trained on a huge pile of datasets by humans to act differently for different purposes.

Well, despite the context or the purpose of the output might be the same, it will always come up with something new whenever you try again.

After completing the week 1 lessons, I was given an assignment where I had to answer 2 questions.

The first one was prompting ChatGPT to explain the mechanism of large language models and frame 3 follow-up questions based on the output

Create a prompt for a large language model, such as ChatGPT, to describe how large language models work. Ask at least three follow-up questions based on the output. Provide the prompts and outputs from the conversation as the answer.

The second one was to make a mean plan or a recipe idea

Create a prompt for a large language model, such as ChatGPT, that asks it to perform an instruction other than answering a question. For example, ask ChatGPT to create a meal plan, plan a trip, create a recipe, or help you diagnose a problem. Provide the prompts and outputs from the conversation as the answer.

So I logged into my ChatGPT and wrote these prompts.

Question 1 Prompt: -

Summon the role of AI engineer and explain the mechanism about how Large Language Models work to a person who has “zero knowledge” about Large Language models.

Question 2 Prompt:-

create a 7-day meal plan on a trip to Digha.

Well, it was a bit short as I was focused on the output mainly 😅

My End thoughts

So, talking about the course, up until now,

it’s good

As I mentioned before I just completed my 1st week, upcoming week’s learning process is still in progress

The reason why, I haven’t done the Andrew Ng course was my mistake only as I was busy checking the reviews about it and its information,

My bad!

Generally, I decided to know fully about the course and then I will start it, but in the amidst of time,

I totally ignored it.

But I have decided to carry on this course further.

I will occasionally update you guys with the information.

What I learned, My P.O.Vs, and my experiences till the end.

For now, you can also start this course by creating an account on Coursera.
